[ the ride there is long, and quiet. she has known kaz brekker long enough to know when he is lost inside his own head, and for the most part, inej allows him to be there. she does her part by dozing against his side underneath his arm, letting him use her for a tether for most of the ride there. when she is not dozing, she asks kaz to point out different landmarks and quizzes him on different varieties of flowers and fruit trees. by the time she has run out of little bits of trivia, they have arrived at the farm.
her first thought is that it is beautiful. the rolling fields and hills seem to stretch on forever, and while kaz fusses over their bags to ensure that they are all accounted for, inej allows herself the space to breathe in it. this feels deeply personal, and inej is immediately possessive over it. this piece of kaz that no one else has, but her. she would treasure it, this place, and already does.
by the time they get settled and the fire wards off the chill of early spring, kaz has made his way back to her side, and inej blinks at the arm around her waist before tilting her head back with a warm smile, leaning into his half-hug. ]
Mm, maybe in a few more moments; I want to watch the rest of the sunset.
[ it was beautiful, after all, and inej returns her eyes to the fields, her head still resting comfortably against his shoulder as she surveys the property from the comfort of the kitchen. ]
I can hear you thinking.
[ she adds, her lips twitching into a faint smile as she watches the final rays of the sun disappear behind the hills. ]
