[ she hangs up his suit jacket on a nearby hook and is about to ask if Kaz can help her unhook her dress when he asks her to turn around.
she blinks before offering him a warm smile, a little knowingly. and she turns in a slow circle, to give the full effect of the dress. ]
I thought you would like it.
[ — and on the last slow turn, her foot catches a little on the carpet, and it’s a less than graceful finish as a laugh escapes, reaching out to catch his hands in hers, eyes bright. ]
I think we may have had too much to drink, which could be a problem.
[ she says seriously, squeezing his fingers as she tugs herself closer to him, the dress falling back nearly around her. ]
Because I need help getting out of this dress and if you can’t even open a door, then I might be sleeping in it.
[ she ignores that she’s the one who couldn’t open the door because details. ]
[ She turns and he gives her a purposeful look over from head to toe, grinning when she takes his hands in hers. ]
I do, I really do.
[ He keeps her steady—well, he thinks, anyway, it's hard to tell what's steady and what isn't right now—when she comes closer, returning them squeeze to her fingers. ]
We'll figure something out. [ His hands settle on her waist and he leans in to press his cheek to her chest momentarily. Blindly, he reaches behind her, fingertips coming in contact with the zipper. There's an eye hook at the top, which he spends a few moments trying to unlatch.
Eventually he feels the pop as it comes undone and he works the zipper down. ]
See? [ Never mind that it would've taken him ten seconds without having had multiple glasses of wine. ]
[ oh, he’s intent to figure it out. and inej remains still, letting him fiddle with the back of the dress, and she’s about to suggest that she turn around when he manages to get the hook undone. ]
I stand corrected.
[ with a grin, letting him ease the zipper down, but she pauses once she realizes something, and inej steps backward just enough to reach her own arms behind her back, fiddling with something. ]
Wait, one . . .
[ and whatever she’s done seems to be accomplished fairly quickly before she loops her arms around his neck with a bright grin, a mischievous look in her eye.
she had to tuck the strap of the bra into the dress itself for most of the evening, due to the gown being backless and all. but now it’s properly put on, and inej leans forward to kiss his forehead. ]
You can take it off now.
[ the dress came with the matching lingerie set, and seeing as she had already paid a ridiculous amount of money for the dress, she may as well take the free underwear. ]
[ She reaches behind herself and he gives her a puzzled look as she seems to adjust something. The confusion remains even after she loops her arms around his neck, though he has to admit the sneaky glint in her expression is encouraging. ]
A surprise?
[ Well, color him intrigued. It was enough to see her in the dress all night; something that's still a bit rare. She looks incredible, the lace clinging to her curves and skirt flaring so elegantly. But apparently there's more to it.
He eases the fabric off her shoulders and down her arms. The front of the dress droops, revealing an equally lacy bra that he swears quietly about—it has an immediate effect, the twinge of interest pooling right between his legs. ]
Ghezen, I can't believe you. [ He says, awed and warmed by the disbelief. She's done this before but it's always a nice surprise. Ducking out of the loop of her arms, he helps her get the top of the dress the rest of the way off, letting gravity slide the fabric to the floor. Leaning up, he pulls her into a kiss, hands wandering down to hook a finger under the straps of her garters. ]
[ she laughs into the kiss as he tugs her forward, immediately moving to return the kiss earnestly; her hands looping around his neck again, grinning. ]
You can’t believe what?
[ innocently enough, as she delicately settles herself in his lap, pressing a delicate kiss against his mouth. ]
It came with the dress.
[ — which is mostly true. she did request minor alterations in the fabric. and she could have selected something a little more modest. but she knows what he likes, and why deny him that. ]
I would think you would appreciate the need to match . . . and seeing as I am the love of your life and you have agreed, under contract, to serve me until the end of your days or whatever we had to say ten hours ago . . .
[ It came with the dress she says, which makes sense but is still amazing. The cut of it is more daring than what she's worn before and he wants to personally thank whoever made it and the dress. Because it fits her so perfectly that he has to admire the work, even if the admiration is a bit drunken.
As she settles her weight gently across his lap, he slips his hands up the backs of her thighs to settle on her hips. ]
My dear wife, this is the winning hand.
[ For every reason under the sun. Kaz is fairly sure he's never been so happy in his life before. He presses a soft kiss to her chest and works his way up, lips brushing gently across hers. ]
If you want me to serve you— [ Kaz starts, murmuring against her mouth and then dipping to her neck. ] —you should tell me what you want.
[ wife. for some reason, the word causes a stirring in her, warm and happy. she hadn't really envisioned herself married, for a lot of reasons. but here she is, ring on her finger and all, about a week away from setting off on a blissful vacation in paradise with her husband. ]
Hmmm. . .
[ the noise is drawn out, thoughtful as she lets her eyes close, the kiss to her neck feeling better than usual, for some reason. and she gets lost in that feeling, for half a moment, before inej realizes kaz has asked her for some level of input.
inej usually doesn't drink to excess. she avoids it unless she's with people she trusts and loves, that she knows will look out for her if she needs it. but she's typically the one taking care of her idiot friends who drink too much at dinner, present company included.
alcohol tends to make her distracted, and definitely not as sure-footed. and also tends to amplify her mood, which is why she avoids it when she's angry or upset. now, she's . . . blissfully happy, and stupidly in love with this idiot, and -- kaz had asked her a question, hadn't he. what does she want . . .
the (silent) question causes a laugh, which soon dissolves into giggling as she tries to stop it, before she takes his face in her hands to kiss him gently. she knows she's probably supposed to be a lot more enticing than drunk and laughing on his lap on their wedding night but: ]
I have everything I have ever wanted.
[ she says with a grin, as she presses her forehead to his. ]
[ Neither of them are the type to drink excessively. Kaz doesn't like the lack of control that typically comes with it, the addling of wits becoming annoying rather than fun. Usually when drinks are involved it's also been at the club, around too many people he isn't as close to. The last thing he needs is his reputation to warp because someone saw underneath all the scars and viciousness.
Tonight had clearly been an exception, being surrounded by friends who he's (mostly) stopped caring about seeing the less severe side of him. Inej did the same and now here they are, well past tipsy.
Seeing her in the lingerie definitely sparked an interest, but he can't complain when she breaks into giggles so suddenly, her face lighting up. He grins along with her, still smiling when she kisses him so gently, his face cupped in her hands.
Maybe they're supposed to be doing other things tonight but Kaz honestly can't think of how she could be any more beautiful than right now; flushed and happy as she is sitting in his lap. ]
Well done, me. [ Kaz rubs his nose to hers and loops his arms around her middle, pulling her closer. Of course, he isn't quite as balanced as usual, so he ends up tugging her down with him as he falls back onto the bed with a startled laugh. ]
[ she tips forward without much warning, though she does catch herself on the mattress with her hands before she lands on top of him properly. though she's still close, grinning, and she lowers herself for a brief kiss. ]
Hmmm . . . I think you might have mentioned it.
[ as she presses her lips to his cheek. ]
I think we might have just had a very long party where the entire point was how much we love one another.
[ or something. you know, it can be hard to tell, amidst all the music and drinking and food and dancing. she honestly can't remember the last time she danced. ]
And I think we might have even told each other that we love one another in front of everyone . . . [ and she kisses his temple. ] More than once.
[ and, finally, she returns to give him a kiss to his lips, grinning. ]
[ Honestly, he's fairly certain he's told her at least ten times through the night. That doesn't count the vows or the small speeches, which doubles that number easily.
It also doesn't count the peak of his drunkenness, where his memory has gone a little fuzzy.
She kisses his cheek and temple and finally ends on his mouth and he slides his hands up along her back, touching out of pure affection. He returns her kiss, pressing into it slightly, a smile curving his mouth just as much as hers. ]
There's two tickets to Novyi Zem with our names on them, coincidentally. You can lie in the sun and become more beautiful while I try not to beat out strawberries for their color.
[ there's another laugh, at that. poor kaz. being able to lay in the sun and tan is just not in the cards, for him. but, thankfully: ]
We can find an umbrella.
[ she murmurs, kissing the corner of his mouth, running her hands down his sides as she settles back a bit more squarely on his hips. she's comfortable, being lazily affectionate. ]
I even bought a new bathing suit. [ or, rather, one to begin with. swimming isn't exactly something they do together, usually. if at all. ] And a matching sun hat.
[ not that she really needs to stay out of the sun, but. whatever. and soon, she leans forward again, hair falling over her shoulder as she leans over him with a grin, dipping down to kiss him again. ]
I am going to keep you in bed for a month.
[ she murmurs against his lips -- or, well. not a solid month. she supposes breaks will need to be taken for enjoying the beaches. and food. but spending an entire month enjoying his company and doing absolutely nothing but enjoy his company . . . and she kisses the corner of his mouth again, tone warm. ]
[ Her weight settles across his hips more and he relaxes, happy to let her touch where she will. Honestly, this is nice. He's warm and stress free and he feels an overwhelming urge to pull her down into a hug.
All in due time. ]
A month? [ His eyebrows go up, a decidedly boyish grin lighting up his face. ] Is that a promise?
[ He doesn't think they'll actually stay in bed for a month but the idea of extremely appealing. Even if it ends up being a few days where they don't really do much but keep each other company, that sounds great.
After all, it's not like they'll be around too many other people. They can indulge in as many public displays of affection as they want. The idea he'll be able to kiss and hold her after she's been spending time in the sun is extremely appealing.
Then again, kissing her is appealing all the time. Like now, where he presses one to her mouth. And another. ]
Well, Mrs. Brekker, your husband would like to get changed so he can lovingly spoon you in comfort. [ That's never going to get old. ]
[ his grin always makes her warm and light, and at his words of is that a promise?, inej responds with a chaste kiss to his lips. because, of course it is.
that chaste kiss turns into another, and another, and she’s soon laughing again at his request to be let up. ]
Hmmm . . .
[ that does sound lovely. and they really should go to sleep. they haven’t even begun to pack for their trip. and she should probably get into more comfortable clothes, too.
so after a moment of pondering: ]
Request granted, Mr. Brekker.
[ she murmurs, pressing one last gentle kiss to his lips before shifting her weight to move off of him. she stretches idly before standing herself to move toward their dresser, her walk not quite as silent or graceful as it usually is.
time to find a shirt. or not. she hasn’t really decided yet. ]
[ Really, he doesn't want her to get off of him, but his desire to be out of these clothes slightly outweighs wanting to stay put. He lets her go after he presses a kiss to her cheek and then he sits up carefully, feeling a bit of the alcohol dizziness. Glancing over, he catches sight of Inej just as she's stretching and he takes a moment to enjoy that before he pulls himself up.
Undressing is done just as carefully as he'd sat up, not wanting to lose his balance and end up on the floor. He spends most of the time undoing his sock garters than on anything else. Cursed but useful things.
And while he said he was going to get changed, he doesn't bother to pull pajamas on, too sleepy and carefree. Once he's undressed and washed up, he slides into bed with a content sigh, more than ready to turn in and cuddle. ]
You looked like you had fun, dancing with Jesper. [ The two of them had been almost funny to watch at first, their height difference even more stark. But they'd both been so surefooted that it'd become entertaining to watch them carry on. ]
[ similarly, after about five minutes of staring into her dresser while Kaz undresses, inej decides to dispose of her lacing underthings and just fall into bed with a soft laugh. and she soon rolls into his side, snuggling close. ]
Mmm, it was fun.
[ jesper hadn’t really given her much of a choice, grabbing her hands and pulling her onto the floor. but she had quickly learned the steps, and Jesper soon learned that her graceful athleticism wasn’t just limited to acrobatics. ]
He had more to drink than you did. [ oh, Jesper. he was definitely responsible for why inej was drunk. and at that thought, she laughs again, relaxing into her pillow. ] I think I might’ve agreed to name our imaginary firstborn child after him on round three.
[ When Inej joins him, he turns towards her, curling an arm around her middle and pulling her close, chin set on top of her head. There's a bit of fidgeting but soon he settles, letting out a happy, quiet, hum. ]
And chances are he'll bounce back with no problem. [ Jesper recovered better than he did. Always has. Kaz can't work up the energy to be jealous, because all he can think of is his friend's infectious laugh as he twirled Inej earlier. ]
That might get confusing. [ Yelling Jesper was then bound to get two heads turning. ] Llewellyn is a mouthful but not terrible.
[ It would technically fulfill her promise, as well. ]
[ she opens her mouth to repeat it —- Llewellyn —- but her tongue gets tied around the syllables fairly quickly, and she decides to give up on that one. ]
We may just have to break that promise.
[ she decides as she curls closer to him, grinning to herself as his arm circles around her snugly, sighing comfortably. it has to be almost four in the morning by now . . . ]
I am sure he will be okay. His feelings will not be hurt that badly.
[ Kaz had quite a bit to drink, but he's pretty sure Nina and Jesper had outdone everyone else. And somehow they'll be fine in the morning, they usually are. Ugh. ]
Let's get some sleep, tomorrow we'll have to start thinking about packing. [ He says sleepily, tilting his head to press his lips to her forehead. Today was just the first day of a number of weeks that'll be the meaning of wedded bliss. At least he's pretty sure. ]
[ she says knowingly, letting her eyes close at the kiss to her forehead. Inej isn’t entirely certain she’ll be up any earlier, but she does know packing is likely not happening tomorrow.
but she soon relaxes, murmuring a quiet good night and an I love you before she drifts off to sleep. ]
[ Oh hey, the past however many hours have finally caught up to him because words are difficult. He murmurs love you in response and feels the pull of sleep.
And then not much else until morning swings around. When Inej gets up, his consciousness surfaces as it sometimes does. He thinks he asks her a question, though how clear it comes out, he isn't exactly sure. Because then he's dropping back to sleep. At least until the sun shines in a bit more fully, enough to fall across his face. He groans, turns over, and then feels the insistent pounding of his head.
Ah. There's Nina's hellish alcohol striking with a vengeance.
Carefully, he drags himself out of bed to the bathroom, working up the energy to at least wash his face. Standing up for too long is just not a great idea though, so he ends up flopped back in bed. Away from the sunny spot, which means he's in the middle of said bed, comforter haphazardly draped over himself.
Inej, as usual, seems to have gotten up and about. He thinks he can hear her in the kitchen, but he doesn't have the energy yet to investigate. ]
[ unlike her beloved friends, inej tries her best to drink water throughout the evening while she drinks. so when she does wake up, her hangover isn't as severe as it could be. so when she gets up, kaz mumbles something that is honestly indecipherable, and inej decides she needs to make breakfast.
so she gets up and shrugs into a loose white robe to go to the kitchen to make coffee and breakfast. she hears some movement in the bedroom, but it soon ends. likely back to bed.
she arranges the food (which is just eggs in a basket with a bit of ham on the side) and coffee onto a tray, carefully balancing it as she walks back to their room. she sets the tray on the bedside table, arching her eyebrows at the sight of kaz in the middle of their bed, seemingly avoiding the sun on his face.
what a child. ]
Good morning.
[ she says, amused, stepping around the bed to move to the curtain, to tug them a bit more closed so he can have some respite. ]
[ He doesn't hear her come in at first, too preoccupied with avoiding as much light as possible, an arm thrown across his eyes to block the filtered brightness. It's not until he hears the tray being set down and the curtains drawn that he hazards a peek.
Ok, not too bad. Though he winces as he sits up, head immediately complaining from the change. ]
Morning. [ And honestly it is a good one, despite the pounding headache. He even flashes her a small smile when she asks him to come back to life, reaching for the aforementioned coffee. ]
I don't know how you manage to get up so early all the time. [ On normal days it's baffling enough. Today is a pure mystery, one he lightly ponders as he sips his drink, enjoying how hot it is. A few sips and he feels slightly less hazy, though that probably has less to do with the coffee and more to do with the fact that he's sitting up. Whatever. ]
[ as she takes her own cup of coffee, settling down onto the bed to rest against his leg, crossing her legs underneath herself, letting the robe drape over her legs. ]
You look slightly less dead than I expected. [ she manages to say it fondly enough, as she sips her coffee. her hair is still loosely curled from the wedding, falling around her shoulders -- she should really jump in the shower, but feeding kaz before he got into a vile mood took precedence. ] Regretting your choices?
[ Ah, well. There she is, smarter than the rest of them as usual. ]
Really? I feel fairly dead. [ This headache is no joke. Still, he is up, which is something. About halfway through his coffee he finally starts in on the eggs and toast, which have an almost immediate effect at helping relieve some of the worst pangs. That could also be wishful thinking.
Or maybe he was hungrier than he thought, on top of the hangover. Not the best combination. ]
A minor regret. [ In the grand scheme of things. Glancing over at her, he twirls a loose curl around his finger, smiling a bit when he lets it go and it bounces. It's cute like this, though he's biased and likes her hair no matter how she chooses to wear it. ] Some other choices are not regrettable, ever.
[ the corner of her mouth tugs upward, at the idle playing with her hair, and inej sips her coffee a bit more, letting kaz eat a little bit before she leans over to collect her plate to start on her own breakfast. ]
Ah, good, you have no morning-after regret for most of the decisions you made yesterday.
[ amused, as she takes a bite out of her toast. she teases, but she knows in her heart that kaz would never take back most of what happened yesterday. -- maybe whatever toxic ravkan liquor nina had him drink, but that's about it. ]
At least we have nowhere to be, today.
[ inej is quietly glad she declined the whole post-wedding breakfast idea that had been floated around by more than one wedding planner. neither of them would have made it. ]

so she gets up and shrugs into a loose white robe to go to the kitchen to make coffee and breakfast. she hears some movement in the bedroom, but it soon ends. likely back to bed.
she arranges the food (which is just eggs in a basket with a bit of ham on the side) and coffee onto a tray, carefully balancing it as she walks back to their room. she sets the tray on the bedside table, arching her eyebrows at the sight of kaz in the middle of their bed, seemingly avoiding the sun on his face.
what a child. ]
Good morning.
[ she says, amused, stepping around the bed to move to the curtain, to tug them a bit more closed so he can have some respite. ]
Drink coffee and come back to life, please.
no subject

[ aside from marrying her, obviously. ]
no subject
] Some other choices are not regrettable, ever.
no subject
Ah, good, you have no morning-after regret for most of the decisions you made yesterday.
[ amused, as she takes a bite out of her toast. she teases, but she knows in her heart that kaz would never take back most of what happened yesterday. -- maybe whatever toxic ravkan liquor nina had him drink, but that's about it. ]
At least we have nowhere to be, today.
[ inej is quietly glad she declined the whole post-wedding breakfast idea that had been floated around by more than one wedding planner. neither of them would have made it. ]
